Rainbow Tourmaline

Vibrant variety of colors

Tourmaline owes its name to the Sinhalese word "turmali", which means something like "stone of mixed colors." Hardly any other gemstone inspires with a comparable variety of colors. Its color spectrum ranges from delicate to intensely luminous shades of green, through radiant pink, to warm nuances of red. Each color variant possesses its own unique character, making tourmaline a particularly versatile gemstone. The carefully selected gemstones originate from Brazil and the Congo.

History

The gemstone tourmaline has been known since antiquity. Because it possesses a wide variety of external appearances, encompassing all the colors of the rainbow, it was frequently confused with other stones. Consequently, during the Middle Ages, red tourmaline was referred to as "carbuncle," just like ruby or garnet. Its current name only became established in the 18th century. It comes from the Sinhalese (turmali) and translates to "stone of mixed colors." A characteristic feature of tourmaline is its great variety of colors.
