Lapis Lazuli
Ultramarine blue
The name "lapis lazuli" has its origins in Persian and means "blue stone." Its intense color palette ranges from deep ultramarine blue to lighter shades of blue. White calcite inclusions can affect the quality of the gemstone, while the characteristic gold-colored pyrite inclusions are reminiscent of a sparkling starry sky and define the special charm of lapis lazuli.
BERND WOLF exclusively uses lapis lazuli of exceptionally high quality. The gemstones come from the Hindu Kush, which stretches from Afghanistan to northern Pakistan. There, they are carefully mined during the summer months from June to November at altitudes between 3,500 and 5,500 meters.
Effect
Lapis lazuli was revered as a sacred stone in ancient times and valued in numerous cultures for its attributed positive properties. It was said to protect against the "evil eye" and to help with ailments such as gout, blood disorders, or insomnia.
Furthermore, it is traditionally considered a stone of friendship and stability. It is said to strengthen willpower and helpfulness while simultaneously protecting against negative influences.
History
Lapis lazuli was already being used in Europe as a decorative and pigment stone in the 3rd millennium BC. It was considered a sought-after commodity from which ornate objects were crafted. However, the stone was also placed in Egyptian tombs as a burial offering for deceased pharaohs. For instance, lapis lazuli was partially incorporated into the death mask of Tutankhamun.
